Media Training Workshop for developing country journalists

Durban, South Africa - 28 November- 9 December 2011

International Convention Centre (ICC) & Durban Exhibition Centre (DEC)

Media Workshop Durban

To coincide with UN Climate Change Talks in Durban, the UNFCCC Secretariat is organizing a two-week media training workshop as a capacity-building initiative for developing country journalists.

The workshop is jointly organized with Com+, the sustainable development communications alliance. It has been made possible through capacity-building support provided by Spanish and Norwegian Governments along with Com+,the sustainable development communications alliance.

The invited participants are journalists from Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean. The main topics covered this year are climate change science and key issues discussed by Parties in Durban, particularly relating to climate finance, technology transfer and adaptation. A special focus in 2011 is on the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and how it benefits people on the ground, not least in Africa.

On 1 December, as part of its programme for Durban, the Climate Change Media Partnership (CCMP)  will organize a Climate Communication Day with different panelists speaking on topics such as innovations in Information and Communications Technology sector that enable people to adapt to climate change and help reduce greenhouse gases, and what governments are doing to communicate climate change-related issues. This event is open to all interested media; subject to capacity (registration is required).

The bulk of Com+ presentations are open to all developing country media on site, subject to space limitations. To see which events are open and which are on special invitation only, please consult the color-coded programme.

For questions regarding the workshop, please contact Lucy Waruingi, lwaruingi@unfccc.int
