Please visit our pdf-icon Frequently Asked Questions (64 kB) about accreditation. We receive a high volume of e-mails each day, and while each inquiry is important to us, we don't have the resources to answer those questions that are covered in the FAQs. Please check to see if yours is a Frequently Asked Question.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and patience.

Eligibility for press accreditation

Media participation at UNFCCC Conferences is subject to accreditation by the UNFCCC secretariat. Accreditation is strictly reserved for members of the press - print media, photo, radio, TV, film and news agencies - who fully meet UN media accreditation requirements. Accreditation will be granted upon presentation of valid press credentials including a:

  1. Completed online accreditation form
  2. Letter of assignment on official letterhead of a media organization signed by the Publisher/Assignment Editor, Editor-in-chief or Bureau Chief, specifying the name and functional title of the journalist. Unsigned letters or e-mails will not be accepted.
  3. Photocopy of a valid press card/work pass
  4. Photocopy of passport/national ID card

All credentials may be sent by fax to +49 228 815 1856 or +49 228 815 1999. Credentials may also be scanned into a graphics format (.bmp. gif. jpg, tif) and sent by e-mail to press@unfccc.int

You may be asked to submit additional materials to support your application.

It should be noted that no double accreditation is allowed (e.g. as press and delegate, or as press and NGO).

Freelance journalists are subject to the same requirements. Freelance journalists, including photographers, must provide clear evidence they are on assignment from a specific news organization or publication. A valid assignment letter from that news organization, or publication, is required. Photographic agencies must provide clear evidence from a client news organization or publication.

Requests for accreditation can be denied if applicants cannot establish they are professional journalists, or if the applications are incomplete. Applicants can check the status of their requests online by utilizing the URL and PIN code received when the online form is submitted.

The UNFCCC secretariat must be satisfied that the individuals applying for accreditation are bona fide media professionals and represent bona fide media organizations. Accreditation will only be given on proof of a track record of reporting for media organizations on international affairs. Media accreditation is not accorded to the information outlets of non-governmental organizations. Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis.
