CGE Hands-on Training Workshop on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories for the African Region, Pretoria, South Africa, 18 - 22 September 2006

The Consultative Group of Experts on national communications from Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention (CGE) is a constituted expert body of the Convention with the overall goal of improving the process of preparation of the second and subsequent national communications by providing technical advice and support to Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention (non-Annex I Parties). At its eight session, the Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP), mandated the CGE to provide technical advice and support, by organizing and conducting workshops, including hands-on training workshops at the regional or subregional level, on greenhouse gas inventories, vulnerability and adaptation, and mitigation for the preparation of second and subsequent national communications by non-Annex I Parties.

The COP, at the same session, also adopted the guidelines for the preparation of national communications from non-Annex I Parties (decision 17/CP.8). These guidelines are further elaborated through the publication, by the secretariat, of a user manual and the conduct of CGE regional hands-on training workshops.

Objective
This hands-on training workshop was aimed at assisting non-Annex I Parties in improving the preparation of the GHG inventories section of the national communications through training on a wide range of approaches, methods and tools.
