The Hague Climate Change Conference - November 2000


  • Visas

    Participants in COP 6 who may require a visa for entry into the Netherlands are encouraged to contact the nearest Dutch embassy or consulates as soon as possible. The embassies and consulates will be able to provide detailed information about visa requirements. Participants are encouraged to submit their applications for visas in a timely manner to allow sufficient time for processing. The Government of the Netherlands has agreed with the secretariat that visas or entry permits shall be granted free of charge and as speedily as possible.

    During the entire duration of the Conference of the Parties, the conference centre is not be open to the public. Only representatives from Parties, Observer States, observer organisations or accredited press/media will be permitted to enter the premises. Strict security measures will be enforced throughout the conference. Participants must enter the Netherlands Conference Centre through the main entrance and wear their badges visibly at all times and in all areas of the conference premises. Badges for participants and delegates are issued only on the basis of a letter of nomination from Parties, Observer States or accredited observer organisations. Press badges are issued only to press/media representatives accredited to cover the conference. Lost badges must be reported to the Registration Desk immediately.


    Registration of Parties, Observer States and observer organisations: The Registration Desk will be located at the entrance of the Staten Hall of the Netherlands Conference Centre. It will be open from Friday, 10 November to Sunday 12, November, between 1.00 p.m. and 6.00 p.m. and from Monday, 13 November to Friday, 24 November from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.
    Diplomatic missions in The Hague may collect their delegationsÌ badges upon presentation of a corresponding letter of authorisation and identification (Diplomatic card).

    Accreditation and registration of press/mediaTop

    Accreditation and registration of press/media takes place at Registration Desk by the Staten Hall entrance, Netherlands Conference Centre, between 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. on Monday, 13 November to Friday, 24 November. Badges for press/media representatives who have already submitted a press accreditation form will be available in advance on Friday, 10 November between 12.00 p.m. and 6.00 p.m.
    Badges may be collected upon presentation of two forms of photo ID (passport, official national press pass, driver's license, work ID, etc.) or of a photo press pass from the United Nations in New York, Geneva, Vienna, or Nairobi.

    Participants are reminded that double registration is not permitted.

    Climate Change KioskTop

    Located in the main foyer, the Climate Change Kiosk's primary goal is to provide information about climate change and the secretariat. The material available at the Kiosk includes the texts of the Convention and the Kyoto Protocol in the six official languages of the United Nations, as well as other public information materials. Furthermore, it includes display panels, computers with Internet connections and a small area where participants can drop off a video, document or CD-ROM, which they would like to exhibit.

    Conference Information DeskTop

    The Information Desk located in the main foyer of the Netherlands Conference Centre provides general information about the meetings and the venue. It also distributes a folder containing a map of the building and the booklet "Information for Participants", which lists available services with their exact location within the Netherlands Conference Centre, as well as their opening hours and contact numbers.

    Documents Distribution CounterTop

    The Documents Distribution Counter, located in the passage between the conference centre's main foyer and Staten Hall, has copies of all official documents, including the Daily Programme of scheduled meetings and the list of participants. In addition, UNFCCC documents are available on the Documents Section and by e-mail upon request from the secretariat.

    Services for NGOsTop

    Offices for environmental groups, business and industry organisations, as well as for local NGOs are located in the Paulus Potter hall on the underground level of the Netherlands Conference Centre. The offices are equipped with PC workstations and printers.

ENB Coverage
