Mankind is changing the climate. Our common future is at stake. All countries must act with determination. We must cooperate under the umbrella of the UN and the Rio Conventions to ensure global legitimacy. Norway will do its part to reverse greenhouse gas emissions and aims to be carbon neutral by 2050. Madeira has much pride in its forest and environmental richness, which are also a patrimony of Europe and of all humankind, preserving them with sincere dedication and much pleasure. The main ecosystem of this Region is the Laurel Forest, a Natural World Heritage under the auspices of UNESCO, which coexists in the Archipelago of Madeira along with other ecosystems of a high biodiversity level. The Basque Country was a pioneer in 2002 when it approved the Basque Environmental Strategy for Sustainable Development 2002—2020. Today, in the framework of this strategy, the Basque Government has specified its action plan for the next four years with focus on the following aspects: facing climate change, protecting biodiversity, improving air quality and promoting sustainable production and consumption. The role of the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Union’s financing institution, is to fund investment projects contributing to balanced and sustainable development of the EU and its partner countries. We actively support the EU’s climate change policy and finance projects reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including renewable energy.
