John Moriarty (Australia) is Chairman and Head of Design of Balarinji, Australia's leading indigenous art and design studio. With his Balarinji Studio, he has undertaken many prestigious national and international art and design commissions. In establishing the Balarinji studio in 1983 with his wife Ros Moriarty, he sought to celebrate his Aboriginal heritage through art and design. Works are held in the collections of several museums and galleries throughout Australia.

About the illustration: I have painted my country. The country has not been altered for countless thousands of years. We would like to pass on the land to future generations, the way the old people did. My people do not own the land, they belong to it and are caretakers of it for those who come behind us.
