UNFCCC MEDIA ALERT - CAPACITY CONSTRAINTS AND INITIAL COVERAGE OF COP 15

The UN Climate Change Secretariat and the Host Government would like to inform all journalists covering  COP 15 of the following:

The maximum capacity of the Bella Center, the venue of the UN Climate Change Conference, is 15,000. More than double that number - 34,000 thousand -  have asked to physically attend the meeting. Due to these contraints, NGO delegates will be allowed access to the building according to a quota system that was implemented at the most recent UNFCCC gathering in Barcelona in November. According to this system, only a prearranged percentage of each organistation's representatives will be allowed access to the building during peak times. Further information can be found pdf-icon here (184 kB)

Also due to the space constraints, a maximum of 3500 journalists will be allowed access to the Bella Center at this point in time. This number has already been reached. The situation will be reassessed 9 December. Should there be a possibility to accommodate more journalists, a corresponding notification will be issued that day. Accreditation for journalists is open on 6 December until 21:00 and will reopen again at 12:00 noon. on 7 December. The morning of 7 December, only government delegates will be issued badges. Media and NGO representative who have not picked up their badges will not be granted access to the Bella Center until noon of Monday. No exceptions will be made. Further information on opening hours of accreditation, along with an overview of press conference and side events is available here

Those journalists not able to attend the meeting on site can follow all plenary discussions and press briefings live via web cast. Further information can be found in the pdf-icon note to correspondents No3 (177 kB)
