UNFCCC press briefing Saturday, 8 December

Ahead of the second week of the United Nations Climate Change Conference - Bali, 2007, Yvo de Boer, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), will be giving a press briefing on the state of play and expectations for the remaining days of the conference.

The briefing will take place Saturday, 8 December, at 4:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Press Conference Room (Auditorium) of the Bali International Convention Centre (BICC).

The briefing will also include a short informational presentation on Media Arrangements by the UNFCCC Media Coordination Team.

Priority for press conferences is given to delegations and official UNFCCC briefings. Other requests may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Bona fide representatives of the national and international media can apply for accreditation for the sessions of the Conference of the Parties (COP 13), the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 3), The twenty-seventh sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) of the Convention and the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG 4). Only one accreditation is needed for all these meetings.

Double accreditation is not allowed (e.g. as press and delegate, or as press and NGO). Individuals may not be registered twice or receive more than one badge.

All accredited press/media are requested to register upon arrival at the desk located at the main entrance of the Bali International Convention Centre.

• Press badges may be collected upon presentation of a valid press card and two photo IDs (passport, driver's license, work ID, etc.) or a photo press pass from the United Nations in New York, Geneva, Vienna, or Nairobi.
• As of 2 December 2007, the “no registration, no access” rule shall be strictly applied and will be enforced throughout the period of the sessions.
• Early registration on 1 and 2 December 2007 is highly recommended to avoid delay on the first morning of the sessions.

Saturday, 1 December 2007 and Sunday, 2 December 2007: from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Monday, 3 December 2007 to Friday, 14 December 2007: from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Badges
Press badges issued at previous UNFCCC conferences do not remain valid. Members of the press must be accredited for each meeting.

Badges are essential in order for participants to gain access to the premises. Press badges allow access to the entire conference venue and all public meetings and sessions, unless otherwise indicated for security reasons.

Visas

All journalists and media representatives arriving in Indonesia will need a valid "press" visa. These visas may be obtained from Indonesian embassies around the world.

The issuance of a press visa by the Indonesian Government DOES NOT replace the requirement for press accreditation by the UNFCCC secretariat. Consult the official host country website.

Hotels
Please note that press/media representatives accredited to cover UNFCCC meetings are responsible for their own travel and hotel bookings. A number of hotels in Bali have been selected as official hotels for the conference. Participants may wish to consult the hotel list compiled by the Government of Indonesia. Participants should contact the hotel directly to book their accommodation. A guaranteed credit card is required to make the hotel reservation.

Medical insurance
Participants are strongly advised to obtain, before departure to Indonesia, adequate and valid individual or group travel insurance to cover any expenses that may arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical attention and/or emergency hospital treatment.
