Peatland management to address climate change, biodiversity and community
livelihoods Peatlands are a key wetland ecosystem which is found in many countries
around the world. They cover 400 million ha worldwide and store 20-30% of all terrestrial carbon.
Degradation of peatlands generates major carbon emissions as well as impacting biodiversity and
community livelihoods. The presentation will describe clear measures which are being taken to
restore and manage peatlands in a way to minimise emissions, maintain storage as well as enhance
values for biodiversity.
