Overview and Lessons from UNEP's CDM capacity building initiative

Funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affaris, CD4CDM is a pure CDM capacity building initiative which is neutral to any credit purchase. Capacity building is a bilateral relationship. There is no one-size-fits-all methodology. Different countries/sectors have their own historic, cultural, socio-economic, political and institutional background in which the same activity can be interpreted and implemented in various different ways. Another key factor for success is mutual trust among players. With a mutual trust, the cost can be a lot reduced and the implementation can be more efficient and successful. Also, flexibility should be exercised to the extent possible with the bottom line being kept. The implementer should help the local participants feel the ownership of the project.

Biochemical CO2 capture

One more tool for addressing climate changes: CO2 Solution, a Canadian company based in Quebec, has designed a new technology to capture CO2 and instantaneously transforming this harmful gas into an unharmful liquid by-product right on emission site. Thanks to a recent advance in genetic engineering, a potent catalyst has been manufactured at minimal cost and can treat massive amounts of CO2 in a sustainable manner.
