Technical Expert Meetings: examination of opportunities for actions with high mitigation
potentialIn Warsaw, the ADP requested the secretariat to organize, under the guidance of
the ADP Co-Chairs, technical expert meetings at each of the sessions of the ADP in 2014 to
share policies, practices and technologies and address the necessary finance, technology and
capacity building, with a special focus on actions with high mitigation potential. During the
March session, technical expert meetings will focus on opportunities for action on renewable
energy and energy efficiency. Experts from Parties are encouraged to come prepared with actions
and initiatives that Parties would like to advance, to share experience and engage in
discussions oriented at achieving concrete and practical results. Organizations that are active
in the respective areas are also encouraged to participate by sharing good practices and
initiatives being undertaken with Parties and their potential for broader engagement, as well
as by sharing information on different sources of support available to developing
ADP Virtual expo
In addition to the existing cooperative initiatives already presented in the portal on the UNFCCC website,
interested Parties and organizations are invited to upload relevant material for the technical
expert meetings on renewable energy and energy efficiency here.

Workshop on domestic
preparations for intended nationally determined contributionsThe workshop aims to
provide a space for Parties to share experiences and learn from each other on approaches,
processes, constrains and challenges, including on needs for support, relating to the
preparation of intended nationally determined contributions in the context of decision
The workshop will take place on Tuesday, 11 March from 10:00-13:00 in the WCCB Plenary.

Briefing by relevant organizations and UN agencies on support for
domestic preparations for intended nationally determined contributionsCOP 19 urged and
request developed country Parties, the operating entities of the financial mechanism and any
other organizations in a position to do so to provide support to the activities referred to in
paragraph 2 of decision 1/CP.19, including in relation to the domestic preparations for
intended nationally determined contributions of Parties. This briefing will provide a space for
such organizations to share information with Parties on their programmes of support. In this
context, the Co-chairs prepared a

Briefing on voluntary cancellation of certified emission reductions as a
means of closing the pre-2020 ambition gapThis briefing by the CDM Executive Board, will
provide Parties with practical information about how Certified Emission Reductions (CER) from
the CDM can be used to close the pre-2020 ambition gap. The opportunities, challenges and costs
for Parties to use CERs in this context will be discussed, as will the practical aspects of
implementing the mandate. The briefing will also share some examples of innovative approaches
taken by Parties to use CERs as means to support their domestic climate policies.

As indicated in their letters, the Co-Chairs intend to continue their engagement and open channel of
Observers. In this context, the Co-Chairs have made themselves available to engage with Parties
and Observers between now and the upcoming ADP 2.4 and to participate in meetings with negotiating
groups with a view to consult with them on the work of the ADP. In response to invitations received,
this year the Co-Chairs have participated in the meetings below:

- 12th Informal Meeting on Further Actions against Climate Change (12–15 Feb 2014, Tokyo,

As previously done, the Co-Chairs will hold pre-sessional consultations with groups of Parties prior
to the March session. In this context, Chairs and Coordinators of groups of Parties will be contacted
by the External Relations Unit of the secretariat.
