Greenhouse Gas Inventory Data

The ultimate objective of the Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC) is to achieve "... stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system."

Estimating the levels of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals is an important element of the efforts to achieve this objective. This web page provides access to most recent data on national GHG emissions and removals as follows:

  • GHG Data - UNFCCC: this page is an entry to the UNFCCC GHG data interface which provides access to the most recent GHG data reported by countries that are Parties to the Climate Change Convention
  • GHG Data - Non-UNFCCC: this page provides links to the web sites of various organizations that also collect, estimate and/or disseminate data on GHG emissions/removals
  • Contact: this page suggests an e-mail address that can be used to contact the UNFCCC secretariat for questions, clarifications or more information relating to GHG data
How to find the GHG data needed within the GHG data interface

The UNFCCC data interface provides a vast multitude of data. Data can be displayed for individual Parties or groups of Parties, for different greenhouse gases or for their sum, and in varying degrees of detail. To find the exact GHG data required, the user is advised to consult the following table where typical user requirements are mapped against the data availability on this site.

Please note that due to the ongoing upgrade of the Data Interface (undertaken to reflect the changes related to the adoption of the revised reporting guidelines), the data for Annex I Parties currently contained in the GHG data interface are based on 2014 inventory submissions whereas the aforementioned GHG Data report (FCCC/is based on the 2015 submissions data as of 09 November 2015.

What's new

On 8 May 2017 the secretariat updated the GHG data contained in the Time Series, Global map – Annex I, GHG Profiles (Annex I and Non-Annex I) and Detailed data by Party modules of the GHG data interface. These modules of the data interface include the latest data reported by Annex I Parties as of 15 April 2017 and the information provided in submissions of national communications from 18 non-Annex I Parties (Albania, Brunei Darussalam, Chad, Comoros, Egypt, Guinea Bissau, Kiribati, Lebanon, Maldives, Niue, Palestine, Papua New Guinea, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Sierra Leone, Syrian Arab Republic, Uruguay, Vanuatu) and biennial update reports from 5 non-Annex I Parties (Ecuador, Georgia, Lebanon, Mexico, Singapore) as of 31 December 2016.
