Agenda of the event (138 kB)
The Paris Agreement sets a goal to keep the global temperature rise since
pre-industrial times well below two degrees Celsius, with a preference to limit it to
1.5 degrees. To that end, each country is to submit its national climate action plan,
known as nationally determined contribution (NDC).
NDCs are a major step forward in international climate action. They showcase what
countries are doing to reduce emissions and adapt to climate change across many
sectors, for example such as decarbonizing energy supply through shifts to renewable
energy, energy efficiency improvements, better land management, urban planning and
The Paris Agreement emphasizes the importance of cooperation in reaching its goals.
This includes assisting developing countries in their emission reduction efforts by
providing financial, technical and capacity-building support. Ways and means of
providing such support was the focus of this high-level event.
