Electronic version available
Abstract This paper describes the steps in the preparation of national adaptation programmes of action (NAPAs) and explores options for addressing problems identified by NAPA teams, while building upon lessons learned and best practices. The paper then presents a possible approach for updating NAPAs, to be used by least developed country Parties in submitting information that would supplement previously submitted NAPAs as a way to update risks and priorities being faced. The paper is also a contribution of the least developed countries expert goup (LEG) towards the Nairobi work programme, and could inform the discussions on adaptation planning under the Ad-Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention. The paper is a key delivery of the LEG work programme for 2008 – 2010 as specified in document FCCC/SBI/2008/6 and in the list of priority activities contained in document FCCC/SBI/2008/14.
