Abstract
The Conference of the Parties, by its decision 5/CP.10, invited Parties that support space agencies involved in global observations to request these agencies to provide a coordinated response to the needs expressed in the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) implementation plan. The Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice, at its twenty-seventh session (FCCC/SBSTA/2007/16, para. 41), commended the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) and the Parties supporting space agencies on the progress made in 2007 in implementing actions in response to the GCOS implementation plan, and invited CEOS to provide an updated progress report by its twenty-ninth session. In response to this invitation, South Africa has submitted the above-mentioned progress report on behalf of the CEOS. In accordance with the procedure for miscellaneous documents, this submission is attached and reproduced in the language in which it was received and without formal editing
