Side events / Exhibits:
What is going on "inSide climate change"?
COP 9 side events have many answers
COP 9 is attracting unprecedented interest from the whole
climate change community. Over 100 side events and 60
exhibits by observer organizations as well as Parties and UN organizations
will take place the Fiera Milano, Milan, Italy between 1-12 December 2003. A vigorous
and varied programme of side events awaits participants at COP 9, highlighting
issues of prime concern to the engaged community, including developing countries
preparations for CDM opportunities; corporate sector activities related to the
market mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol, vulnerability and adaptation policy issues,
post 2012 policy scenarios, science and technology advances and the role of gender
issues in climate change policies.
Two high-level events should be highlighted: " CDM:
power for the people", organized by the secretariat and WBCSD to
explore the role of the CDM in providing clean, affordable power in developing
countries; and " Getting there: tackling transport emissions ",
a multi-stakeholder high-level event focussed on innovative solutions including
state-of-the-art technologies and creative policy options to curb the growth of
emissions related to transport. In addition " The Great Warming ",
a new Canadian documentary film on the impact of climate change on peoples around
the world will be launched. All side events will take place on the first floor
of the Fiera Milano and are open to all participants at the COP. Daily coverage
of selected events will appear in ENB on the Side, ENBoTS, and some will be webcast
and available on demand through the website.
There are two innovations at COP 9:
electronic presentations at side events provided by organizers
may be viewed after the event on the website by clicking on the schedule; and
ENBoTS will publish a summary of the major themes and related actors
featuring in the side event programme post COP.9.
The exhibits at COP 9 are on the first floor and help demonstrate
the high profile of climate change on the global agenda. There are exhibits by
Parties on their climate change activities, including science and technology advances
and research trends as well as by observers with promotional materials, policy
research studies and business and industry measures. |
