LEG regional training workshop on NAPA and medium- and long-term adaptation

Introduction

Since its establishment at COP7, the mandate of the Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG) has expanded with the adoption of new COP decisions on the work of the LEG . Under its current term (2011-2015), the LEG mandate includes the provision of support to LDCs on the NAPAs, the LDC work programme, strengthening gender-related considerations and considerations regarding vulnerable communities within LDcs, and considerations of medium- and long-term adaptation, in particular the national adaptation plan (NAP) process.

As part of its activities for 2012–2013 the LEG will conduct regional training workshops as one of the means to provide technical guidance and advice to LDC Parties, to introduce new approaches, to share best practices and lessons learned, and to promote regional and international synergies. These workshops will build on the experiences from the regional training workshops on implementation of NAPAs that were conducted by the LEG during 2009–2010.

Objectives

  • To enhance the capacity of LDCs to implement NAPAs successfully;
  • To enhance the capacity of LDCs to undertake processes for medium- and long-term adaptation, building upon NAPAs;
  • To promote exchange of information, best practices and lessons learned among the LDCs;
  • To promote gender and other considerations regarding vulnerable communities in the design and implementation of adaptation projects.
