Dear colleagues,
The Conference of the Parties (COP), at its seventeenth session, decided to undertake a work programme on
long-term finance in 2012, including workshops, in order to make progress on long-term finance in the
context of decision 1/CP.16, paragraphs 97–101.
As the Co-Chairs of the work programme on long-term finance, we have been requested by the COP to prepare a
report on the workshops to be considered by the COP at its eighteenth session. In this context, we feel
confident that through working together with Parties in an open and inclusive manner the work programme on
long-term finance will deliver on its aim of contributing to the ongoing efforts to scale up the
mobilization of climate change finance after 2012.
We intend to hold two informal consultation meetings during the forthcoming sessions to be held in Bonn,
Germany, from 14 to 25 May 2012, to gather views and suggestions from Parties. We are particularly
interested in receiving your inputs on the following: (a) key themes to be discussed in the context of the
work programme on long-term finance; and (b) the modalities for conducting this work programme, such as
workshops, a discussion forum and other supporting activities. These informal consultation meetings are
scheduled for:
- Thursday, 17 May at 1.15 p.m. to 2.45 p.m.
- Tuesday, 22 May at 6.00 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.
We will be available for informal meetings with any Party or regional groups of Parties and relevant
stakeholders on the margins of the upcoming sessions in Bonn upon request.
Mr. Georg Børsting
Co-Chair of the work programme on long-term finance
