Momentum for the Implementation of
Concrete Adaptation Projects in Least Developed Countries
Background
The Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI), at its twenty-fifth session, mandated the Least Developed
Countries Expert Group (LEG) to organize, with the assistance of the secretariat, a stocktaking meeting on
the progress made by Parties in National Adaptation Programme of Action (NAPA) preparation and
implementation.
Objectives and scope of the meeting
The objectives of the meeting are:
- To undertake a comprehensive assessment of the status of NAPA preparation;
- To facilitate the sharing of experiences in NAPA preparation and implementation;
- To identify best practices in NAPA preparation;
- To guide NAPA project implementation; and
- To consider how best to integrate NAPA activities into national development planning.
The meeting achieved these objectives through a series of interactive discussions around the main issues
related to the preparation and implementation of NAPAs, drawing on the work of the LEG and inputs provided
by the secretariat of the Global Environment Facility and its implementing and executing agencies as well
as experience and insights from LDC Parties.
