The Fifteenth Asia-Pacific Seminar on Climate Change and the Asia and the Pacific Regional Workshop on
Article 6 of the Climate Change Convention will be held jointly from 11 to 15 September 2005 at Pacifico

The Asia and the Pacific Regional Workshop on Article 6 of the Convention, is being organized in response
to a request by the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) at its eighteenth and subsequent sessions. At
its twenty-first session, the SBI welcomed the offer of the Government of Japan to host the regional
workshop back-to-back with the Asia-Pacific Seminar on Climate Change. The United Nations Environment
Programme (UNEP) is also supporting this event. The workshop will contribute to the further
development and implementation of
the New Delhi
work programme on Article 6, which was adopted by the Conference of the Parties (COP) at its eighth
session in November 2002, and further endorsed by the COP at its tenth session in December 2004. This
workshop will also look at the specific concerns relating to the implementation of Article 6 of the
Convention by the Small Islands Developing States of the region.
The Asia-Pacific Seminar on Climate Change has been
annually organized since 1991 by the Ministry of the Environment, Japan, and more recently in cooperation
with the Australian Greenhouse Office (AGO), Kanagawa Prefecture, and Yokohama City. The Seminar has
served as a regional vehicle for the enhancement of policy dialogues and the promotion of international
cooperation to address climate change. The objective of the Seminar is to exchange information,
experience and views on climate change among countries in Asia and the Pacific, and to facilitate further
activities to address climate change in the region.
