Workshops on Capacity-building
Workshops on capacity-building have helped participants from governments, intergovernmental
organizations and non-governmental organizations explore, share and gather information to support the
monitoring and evaluation of capacity-building activities.
The secretariat has organized two workshops on capacity-building. More information about each of
these workshops is available below.

Meeting on experiences with performance indicators for monitoring and evaluation of capacity-building in
developing countries
Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, 6-7 November 2008
In 2007, the COP requested the secretariat to convene a meeting to discuss experiences in using performance
indicators for the monitoring and evaluation of capacity-building at the national level. Participants
discussed the concepts of capacity and capacity-building, the purposes, methodologies and challenges of
monitoring and evaluating capacity-building, and the principles for the design and application of
performance indicators. Participants recommended a list of options that could be considered to develop
further steps to regularly monitor and evaluate capacity-building activities under the framework for
capacity-building in developing countries. More>>
Expert Workshop on Monitoring and Evaluating Capacity Building in Developing Countries Antigua and Barbuda,
5-6 November 2007
In 2006, the COP requested the secretariat to organize an expert workshop to exchange views and experiences
in the monitoring and evaluation of capacity-building by Parties and multilateral and bilateral agencies,
as well as intergovernmental organizations and non-governmental organizations. Another purpose of the
workshop was to discuss the work of the Global Environment Facility with regard to developing
capacity-building performance indicators to monitor the implementation of the framework for
capacity-building in developing countries. More>>
