Summaries of the consultations on elections, held during the UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn from 6 to 17 November 2017

Consultations with the Chairs and Coordinators of regional groups and constituencies, held during the UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn, convened on Saturday, 11 November 2017 

The consultations on the nominations for the election of officers on bodies under the Convention, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement, chaired by Mr. Helmut Hojesky, Vice-President of the COP/CMP/CMA Bureau, were convened on Saturday, 11 November 2017. 

The secretariat reported that it had received 53 nominations, and there were 83 nominations outstanding, in particular those for the Bureau of the COP/CMP/CMA, the SBI, SBSTA and APA.

Some Chairs and Coordinators informed they have submitted all their nominations, and others informed they are still consulting.

Some Chairs and Coordinators requested additional time to submit the nominations due to time needed to conclude consultations within and between their groups and constituencies.

Vice-President Hojesky thanked Chairs and Coordinators for submitting those nominations, and urged submission of the remaining nominations.

Vice-President Hojesky informed that he will consult with the President on an extension of the deadline for submitting the nominations and inform Chairs and Coordinators accordingly.


Consultations with the Chairs and Coordinators of regional groups and constituencies, held during the UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn, convened on Thursday, 9 November 2017

The consultations on the nominations for the election of officers on bodies under the Convention, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement were convened on Thursday, 9 November 2017 and chaired by Mr. Helmut Hojesky, Vice-President of the COP/CMP/CMA Bureau.

Noting that 126 nominations are pending, Vice-President Hojesky urged Chairs and Coordinators to intensify their consultations and submit these nominations by the deadline of Saturday, 11 November 2017.

Vice-President Hojesky encouraged Chairs and Coordinators to improve gender balance in their nominations.
Chairs and Coordinators thanked Vice-President Hojesky for obtaining the approval of the President on the extension of the deadline for the nominations.

Chairs and Coordinators informed that their internal consultations are in good progress and they will submit their nominations by the deadline.

The next consultations on elections will be convened on Saturday, 11 November 2017.


Consultations with the Chairs and Coordinators of regional groups and constituencies, held during the UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn, convened on Tuesday, 7 November 2017

The consultations on the nominations for the election of officers on bodies under the Convention, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement were convened on Tuesday, 7 November 2017 and chaired by Mr. Helmut Hojesky, Vice-President of the COP/CMP/CMA Bureau.

Noting that over 125 nominations are pending, Vice-President Hojesky urged Chairs and Coordinators to intensify their consultations and submit these nominations by the deadline of Friday, 10 November 2017.

Chairs and Coordinators informed that their internal consultations are progressing, however, they requested an extension of the deadline to submit their nominations.

At the request of Vice-President Hojesky, the secretariat made a presentation on options for improving the representation of women in UNFCCC bodies in accordance with the mandates from the COP.  Following the presentation, Vice President Hojesky encouraged Chairs and Coordinators to improve gender balance in their nominations.

The next consultations on elections will be convened on Thursday, 9 November 2017.
