Ad hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA)

What is the AWG-LCA?

The Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA) is a susidiary body under the Convention established by  pdf-icon decision 1/CP.13 (the Bali Action Plan) to conduct a comprehensive process to enable the full, effective and sustained implementation of the Convention through long-term cooperative action, now, up to and beyond 2012, in order to reach an agreed outcome to be presented to the Conference of the Parties (COP) for adoption.

The COP, at its sixteenth session, adopted decision pdf-icon 1/CP.16 (Outcome of the work of the Ad Hoc Working Group on long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention).

The COP, at its seventeenth session, adopted decision pdf-icon -/CP.17 Outcome of the work of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (398 kB) and by its decision pdf-icon -/CP.17 Establishment of an Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (123 kB) extended the AWG-LCA for one year in order for it to continue its work and reach the agreed outcome pursuant to decision 1/CP.13 (Bali Action Plan).

At the same session, the COP elected  Mr. Aysar Ahmed Al Tayeb as the Chair of the AWG-LCA, Mr. Marc Pallemaerts as the Vice-Chair of the AWG-LCA and Ms. Valeria González Posse as the Rapporteur of the AWG-LCA.



Recent Developments

The fourteenth session of the AWG-LCA was opened in Bangkok, Thailand (5 - 8 April 2011) and subsequently resumed in Bonn, Germany (7 - 17 June 2011) and Panama City, Panama (1-7 October 2011). The fourteenth session will be resumed in Durban, South Africa on 29 November 2011.
