| Description
|
The ILO is the international organization responsible for drawing up and overseeing international labour standards. It is the only 'tripartite' United Nations agency that brings together representatives of governments, employers and workers to jointly shape policies and programmes promoting Decent Work for all. This unique arrangement gives the ILO an edge in incorporating 'real world' knowledge about employment and work.
The ILO agenda for Green Jobs promotes a socially fair transition, in which vulnerabilities, changes in the labour market and new business models are addressed through an inclusive social dialogue.
Green jobs help reducing negative environmental impact, ultimately leading to environmentally, economically and socially sustainable enterprises and economies. In practical terms, green jobs contribute to:
1. reduction of energy consumption and use of raw materials
2. reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
3. minimization of waste and pollution
4. protection of ecosystems |
