The Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies of Kyoto University undertakes multi-disciplinary
innovative approaches to address environmental issues, including climate change adaptation.

The International Environment and Disaster Management Laboratory (IEDM)
|
|
|
|
The International Environment and Disaster Management Laboratory (IEDM) of Kyoto University Graduate School of Global
Environmental Studies undertakes field-based action research on environment and disaster risk
reduction in Asian countries.
IEDM hosts the Asian University Network for Environment and Disaster Management (AUEDM), which has members from 14 Asian countries and regions.
The goal of this network is to enhance research and practice in the field of disaster risk reduction
and climate change adaptation. IEDM and AUEDM collaborate closely with the Asian Disaster
Reduction and Response Network (ADRRN), which is a network
of national and local NGOs in Asian countries. IEDM also work closely with the Regional Network
of Local Authorities for the Management of Human Settlements (CITYNET).

Action Pledge
|
|
|
The action pledge specifically focuses on vulnerable communities in Asia, with specific emphasis
on hydro-meteorological disasters by:
- Undertaking specific community based adaptation projects with linkages to disaster risk reduction
in Asia;
- Focusing on indigenous knowledge and disaster risk reduction and its implications to community
based adaptation;
- Learning and networking activities in the related field.
