Action Pledge: Climate Risk Management (CRM) technical assistance project (received in
April 2009)
The objective of this project is to develop and apply a methodology that integrates risk over short and
longer-term time scales to arrive at an assessment of risk associated with both climate variability and
change. The results will feed into a set of selected country programmes as well as inform the practice
of climate risk management in general.

Action Pledge: Community-based adaptation (received in March 2009)
It is increasingly recognized that small communities are likely to be the most severely affected by climate
change impacts and yet are least equipped to cope and adapt. This pilot project is designed to implement
community-based projects that seek to enhance the resiliency of communities, and/or the ecosystems on which
they rely, to climate change impacts. It will essentially create small-scale ‘project/policy
laboratories’ and generate knowledge about how to achieve adaptation at the local level.

Action Pledge: Developing country-level climate profiles (received in August 2008) -
completed
see http://country-profiles.geog.ox.ac.uk/
The aim of this project is to provide a set of country-level climate profiles including historic trend and
projected future changes using outputs from the most up to date Global Climate Model (GCM) experiments and
robust analytical tools.
This pledge contributes to the areas of work climate modeling, scenarios and downscaling and
research and technologies for adaptation

Action Pledge: Applying climate information for adaptation decision making (received in
August 2008) - completed
see
Applying climate information for adaptation decision-making (3304 kB) , A
guidance and resource document
The aim of this project is to provide
- An overview of diverse needs for climate information within varying adaptation decision contexts, and
state-of-the-art in climate information availability and their robustness;
- Guidance on the selection of existing climate information in support of adaptation; and
- Resources for deriving relevant climate information.
This pledge contributes to the areas of work climate modeling, scenarios and downscaling and
research and technologies for adaptation

Action Pledge: Adaptation Learning Mechanism (ALM) (received in August 2008) -
completed
see http://www.adaptationlearning.net/ (Beta
version)
The Adaptation Learning Mechanism (ALM) supports evolving efforts to integrate adaptation to climate change
in development planning by providing a knowledge-sharing platform that accelerates the process of learning
through experience. The ALM draws upon experiences on the ground and features tools and practical guidance.
It makes available the Country Adaptation Profiles, which provide essential information for planning
adaptation for more than 140 countries.
This pledge contributes to the areas of work methods and tools and adaptation planning and
practices
