The global change SysTem for Analysis, Research and Training (START)
 
 Image START is a framework of collaborating organizations that works to enable and support developing country research on regional aspects of global environmental change, including climate change impacts, vulnerability and adaptation.
 
Action Pledges
 

In response to the UNFCCC secretariat’s invitation for pledges of action to support the Nairobi work programme, START is reviewing its research and capacity building programs and realigning them to provide maximum support for Nairobi work programme objectives. In October 2007, this review resulted in START's first pledges of new actions to support all nine work areas of the Nairobi work programme.

The START action pledges focus on three themes:

  1. Educate and train the next generation of Vulnerability and Adaptation researchers and practitioners
  2. Building institutional capacity for accessing and using climate data and projections
  3. Expanding START decision-support research activities

Updates and new actions
 

In April 2009, START submitted to the secretariat a detailed report, pdf-icon STARTs actions and action pledges in support of the NWP (207 kB) .  This report highlights the progress made on the activities pledged in the October 2007 booklet.  It provides 15 revised action pledges, building on the progress made, in support of the objectives of the Nairobi work programme.

The brochure provides an overview of START’s programs supporting the 9 work areas of the Nairobi work programme and provides a complete listing of START’s action pledges. This revised brochure was submitted to the secretariat in May 2009.
