Contributing to the implementation of the Nairobi work programme (NWP)

Activities undertaken by NWP partners constitute a significant part of the implementation of the NWP. Over 200 organizations, institutions, businesses and communities have already joined the NWP as partners. Many have formulated plans and/or Action Pledges to contribute to adaptation action under the NWP.

Any organization, institution, private sector company or other civil society group, from any level or sector, is welcome to join the NWP as a partner. Private sector organizations who join the NWP will become part of its Adaptation Private Sector Initiative.

Organizations interested in joining are encouraged to:

1) Nominate a NWP Focal Point to receive information on upcoming activities, and how to raise awareness on and disseminate results of adaptation activities. Email nwp@unfccc.int with nominee's contact details.

2) Characterize your organization as an NWP partner. Complete this form and return it to nwp@unfccc.int.

3) Make an Action Pledge - a self-monitored commitment to undertake specific ongoing or future adaptation activities. Complete this form and return it to nwp@unfccc.int.

4)  Update us on your progress with your Action Pledge. Provide an update on actions taken and results achieved under Action Pledge(s). Complete this form and return it to nwp@unfccc.int.

5) Nominate adaptation experts. Any individual with expertise in adaptation may be nominated as an expert by a partner organization, for inclusion in the NWP adaptation expert database. Complete this form and return it to nwp@unfccc.int.

All information provided will be made available in a searchable database on the UNFCCC website.

Ways to contribute as a NWP partner

There are different ways in which partners can contribute to the achievement of the NWP's expected outcomes

Specifically:

  • Align adaptation activities with needs and gaps identified under the NWP, such as those included in the Calls for Action;
  • Undertake specific adaptation actions in the form of Action Pledges to address needs and gaps identified under the NWP, and provide periodic updates on the implementation of these pledges;
  • Contribute to specific activities through:
    • Inputs at meetings and workshops under the NWP;
    • Inputs for publications and other knowledge products;
    • Submissions of views and information mandated by the SBSTA under the NWP;
  • Nominate an adaptation expert.

Generally:

  • Consider and adopt climate-resilient policies and practices;
  • Apply relevant information and knowledge products generated under the NWP to plan for and implement adaptation measures.
