The Kyoto Club is a non-profit Italian organisation created in February 1999. Its members are business companies, companies' umbrella associations, local municipalities and governments, and university departments engaged in reaching the greenhouse gas reduction targets set by the Kyoto Protocol.
To reach its goals the Kyoto Club promotes awareness-raising initiatives, information and training to foster energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, sustainable mobility and proper waste management.
Towards public decision-makers the Kyoto Club puts forward policy proposals to make decisions in the energy and climate-related fields more and more environmentally friendly.
Adaptation activities include:
A. Improving adaptation legislation at the EU and Italian levels: advocacy and lobbying with national and EU institutions.
B. Implementation of an educational adaptation programme supported by the Italian Environment and Education Ministries: working in 300 Italian high schools with students and teachers to raise awareness and support actions.
C. Development of adaptation projects in the Alpine areas, with Slovenian partners and though existing Alpine local authority organisations.
D. Conducting technological research and development of adaptation best practices by Kyoto Club member companies, and planning by Kyoto Club members and cooperating local authorities.
