The International Union for Conservation of Nature works to promote ecosystem-based adaptation or the
use of ecosystem management activities to support societal adaptation. IUCN is working to
integrate ecosystem-based adaptation into policy
frameworks from national to international levels.
As a union, IUCN aspires to play an influential role in the shaping of new global alliances, new ways
of thinking, and innovative solutions by linking the conservation with the development communities
and enhancing their capacity to influence decisions and actions.

Action Pledge

The action pledge refers to the thematic area of the Nairobi work programme on Adaptation
planning and practices. In particular, IUCN pledges to:
- Promote the development and dissemination of tools and methods for ecosystem-based
adaptation
- Implement ecosystem-based adaptation projects
- Collect and disseminate information on ecosystem-based adaptation
- Further communication and dialogue amidst multiple stakeholders on ecosystem-based
adaptation, from national to international level
