The World Meteorological Organization is the UN system's authoritative voice on the state and
behaviour of the Earth's atmosphere, its interaction with the oceans, the climate it produces and
the resulting distribution of water resources.

Action Pledge: Climate information, products and services for adaptation
|
|
|
|
The project is designed to:
- Bring together climate and sectoral experts from international, regional and national
institutions to identify and understand the needs of core socio-economic sectors for climate risk
management and adaptation at various levels;
- Develop and optimize application of user-targeted climate information, products and services for
climate risk management and adaptation;
- Build technical capacity for development and application of climate services of national climate
experts and user communities, particularly in developing and least developed countries.
This pledge contributes to the areas of work: Methods and tools; Adaptation planning and practices,
Research and Technologies for adaptation.

In April 2009, the World Climate Research Programme provided an update (57
kB) highlighting its work to improve climate information, products and services for adaptation.

Action Pledge: Regional Frameworks for Adaptation of Agriculture to Climate Change
|
|
|
|
This project is designed to:
- Bring together experts from national meteorological/hydrological and agricultural departments,
international and regional organizations and institutions, and policy makers from national
planning/financial departments to present state-of-the art papers, real world applications and
innovative techniques for coping with climate change;
- Offer recommendations for planning and implementing an effective Regional Framework for
Adaptation of Agriculture to Climate Change.
This pledge contributes to the areas of work: Adaptation planning and practices and Technologies for
adaptation.

In April 2009, the WMO provided a
progress report (138 kB) on the implementation of the Nairobi work programme.
The report includes information on developing regional frameworks and details a number of workshops
carried out in this regard including
- International symposium on climate change and food security in Asia, August 2008;
- Workshop on climate change impacts and adaptation to agriculture, forestry and fisheries at the
national and regional levels, November 2008;
- International workshop on adaptation to climate change in West African agriculture.
