The SBI at its 33rd session requested the secretariat to organize, before its thirty-fifth
session, a workshop to identify gaps and challenges in the implementation of risk
management approaches to the adverse effects of climate change, building on the lessons
learned and practical experience of international, regional and national organizations and
the private sector.
The workshop enabled representatives from Parties, relevant organizations, regional centres
and networks, academia, civil society and the private sector, to share information on
the current practices, approaches and institutional frameworks for different stages
of managing climate-related risks at different levels, sectors and regions in order
to identify region-specific gaps and challenges as well as those related to risk management
cycle. It also aimed to enhance understanding on a possible range of options to
address various climate-related risks that countries are facing.
