Call for submissions by regional institutions and United Nations agencies on current support for adaptation in developing countries

To whom it may concern,

The Adaptation Committee (AC) was established by Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Cancun in December 2010. The aim of the AC is to promote the implementation of enhanced action on adaptation in a coherent manner under the Convention through a range of functions, including the sharing of relevant information, knowledge, experience and good practices; promoting synergy and strengthening engagement with national, regional and international organizations, centres and networks; and providing information and recommendations, for consideration by the Parties when providing guidance on means to incentivize the implementation of adaptation actions, including finance, technology and capacity-building.

In Doha last year, the Parties to the Convention adopted a three-year work plan of the AC. As part of its work plan, the AC is inviting regional institutions and United Nations (UN) agencies to communicate their current support for adaptation in developing countries. Communications received will be compiled and synthesized in an information paper to assist the AC and eventually the Parties to the Convention in considering ways to strengthen the roles of regional institutions and UN agencies in supporting enhanced adaptation action in developing countries.

Within this context, I would like to invite you on behalf of the Committee to share with us information on the current support for adaptation that your organization is providing to developing countries. In order to facilitate your inputs and our subsequent analysis, a template has been developed. I kindly request you to bundle information, to the extent possible, on current support provided by your organization through portfolios, programmes and projects, and to provide links to additional information on such support.

I would be most grateful if you could communicate to us information on the current support for adaptation that your organization is providing to developing countries, by COB on 5 August 2013 to the Adaptation Committee (ac@unfccc.int).

The AC will notify your organization once the compilation and analysis has been completed and made available. We will of course also inform you of any follow-up by the AC and related developments under the Convention.

I thank you very much in advance for your support to our work.

Yours sincerely,
