H.E. Mr. Salaheddine Mezouar, President of COP 22/CMP12/CMA 1.1 opened the Bonn Climate Change Conference and delivered a

H.E. Mr. Frank Bainimarama, Prime Minister of Fiji, assumed the responsibility of leading the Parties to a pathway towards implementation of the Paris Agreement and to prepare the way for more ambitious climate action before 2020 as the President of COP 23/CMP 13/CMA 1.2.

COP22 and COP23 presidency logos Informal Meeting for the Heads of Delegations of the Parties to the UNFCCC
The Moroccan COP22 Presidency and the incoming Fijian COP23 Presidency jointly organized an informal meeting of Heads of Delegations that took place on 7-8 September 2017 in Rabat, Morocco. A summary report prepared by the co-chairs of the informal meeting can be found below.

Implementation Updates

Pakistan accepted Doha Amendment
Pakistan deposited their instrument of acceptance of the Doha Amendment to the Kyoto Protocol on 31 October 2017. The amendment is expected to enter into force after three quarters of the Parties to the Protocol submit their instruments of acceptance to the Depositary. The United Nations is encouraging governments to speed up their ratification of the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol, the international emissions reduction treaty. To date, 83 Parties have accepted the extension and 144 are required to bring it into force.
