COP22 and COP23 presidency logos Informal Meeting for the Heads of Delegations of the Parties to the UNFCCC
The Moroccan COP22 Presidency and the incoming Fijian COP23 Presidency jointly organized an informal meeting of Heads of Delegations that took place on 7-8 September 2017 in Rabat, Morocco. A summary report prepared by the co-chairs of the informal meeting can be found below.

The Presiding Officers of the SBI, SBSTA and APA actively engaged at the Heads of Delegations meeting in Rabat on 7-8 September, organized by the Moroccan and Fijian Presidencies of the COP, and met separately in the margins. At these meetings and in their discussion with the Presidencies, the Presiding Officers reconfirmed their commitment to continue working together to ensure that all components of the Paris Agreement Work Programme (PAWP) are addressed comprehensively and in a balanced, coherent manner, both at the upcoming UNFCCC sessions in November 2017 in Bonn and in the final outcome of the PAWP in December 2018. Recognizing the need to make the November sessions a significant milestone on the path towards reaching an agreed full outcome for the PAWP at COP-24 in December 2018, the Presiding Officers will work on identifying opportunities to improve the coherence of outputs from the SBI, SBSTA and APA.

Implementation Updates

Myanmar and Fiji accepted Doha Amendment
Myanmar and Fiji deposited their instrument of acceptance of the Doha Amendment to the Kyoto Protocol on 19 September 2017. The amendment is expected to enter into force after three quarters of the Parties to the Protocol submit their instruments of acceptance to the Depositary. The United Nations is encouraging governments to speed up their ratification of the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol, the international emissions reduction treaty. To date, 82 Parties have accepted the extension and 144 are required to bring it into force.
