Presidencies event: taking stock of progress made during the Bonn Climate Change

At the “Presidencies event: taking stock of progress made during the Bonn Climate Change Conference - May 2016,” held on 26 May 2016, the COP 21/CMP11 Presidency represented by H.E. Ambassador Laurence Tubiana, and the incoming COP 22/CMP 12 Presidency represented by H.E. Ambassador Aziz Mekouar, together with the Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC, Chairs of the SBSTA, SBI and the Co-Chairs of the APA, provided information to Parties and non-Party stakeholders on the highlights of the work conducted so far, areas where coherence is needed, and what measures are proposed to enhance collaboration among the various bodies to achieve balance and comprehensiveness in the conduct of their work, including addressing linkages on issues that cut across various bodies. Views were invited from Parties on the progress made.
Ambassador Tubiana reminded participants that this was her last official engagement as the Presidency of COP 21/CMP 11. The Executive Secretary took the floor to extend her deepest appreciation to Ambassador Tubiana. Parties and observers in the room responded with a standing ovation as their expression of appreciation to her for her outstanding work in the lead up to and during the Paris Conference last year as well as her work this year as the high-level Champion of the Presidency, which she will be continuing.

The open-ended informal consultations by the incoming-Presidency of COP22/CMP12 on the expectations for the Marrakech Conference took place on Wednesday 25 May to solicit views from Parties and observers. Reassuring all participants that the Marrakech Conference would focus on producing concrete action and solutions with a view to ensuring successful implementation of the Paris Agreement, the incoming-Presidency underlined that it would fully respect the Party-driven process of the UNFCCC, guided by the principles of openness, transparency, and inclusiveness.
